Christmas and New Drawings!

Well, Christmas has come and gone, and we had lots of fun with friends and family. The kidlets and I had a great time making a gingerbread house and baking sparkle cookies.





Then Santa stopped by...





and brought all kinds of good stuff!







A yummy dinner with our beautiful friends and family rounded out a really great holiday!

Somewhere in the midst of all of that, I finished three new drawings!

Beautiful Day

Woke up in a bad mood today, and it's followed me around for hours. So I decided that the best thing to do is sit down with my art journal and my markers and see what happened. Turns out, I created my own personal beautiful day. :)

Purple Flower Doodle

So, Monday was my birthday (being 30 makes me an official grown up now, doesn't it?) and my friend Jess bought me this gorgeous handmade sketchbook! I love it so so so much!



I finally got up the nerve to actually draw in it last night, after much agonizing over the idea that I might ruin the awesomeness that is the book by drawing in it. So here's my first doodle in my new book-



In other news, I'm finally nearing the end of the painting I've been working on (quite sporadically!) for the past few weeks. You can kind of see it in the background of the sketchbook pic. I'm hoping to be done with it this week! :)

Autumn Tree

Fall is my favorite season, and nothing makes me happier than the beautiful leaves. Every year I make my husband take me to the Smoky Mountains in October, just to look at the leaves. So, this picture is one of my favorites ever!

Artwork for Baby Megan

Wow, I haven't posted in a long time! I guess it's safe to say that my "sketch a day" plan didn't exactly pan out. :P Between homeschooling, my own schoolwork, and opening my art studio, I just ran out of time. However, I was honored to be asked by my good friend Kim to do a couple of commission pieces for her beautiful baby Megan's nursery! Here they are-







Both pieces are 8"x10" matted to 11"x14" colored Conte pencils on smooth, recycled Bristol paper.

I've just started using colored Conte for the first time, so I'm still getting used to how it blends and how the colors work together. Even so, I was pretty happy with the way this sketch (Day 3) turned out:




I'm not really very happy with the way Day 2's sketch turned out. But, I can't love them all, right? Here it is anyway :P

I was inspired by my friend Jess's 365 Photography project, and decided to start a project of my own. I haven't been doing much drawing lately, because I haven't made it a priority. So, I decided to commit to doing at least one sketch every day for the rest of the year. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy stuff I draw! :P
